Starting a search

What happens when I start with a photo?

We create a private recovery search and use the photo with the details you add to compare nearby reports. Starting a search does not automatically publish the photo or create a public report.

Can I continue without a photo?

Yes. Add the clearest location, timing, appearance, and distinctive details you know. You can add or update information later.

Do I need an account?

Not to begin. A private recovery link can reopen the search on another device. Some report-management, messaging, and verification actions may require email verification or sign-in.

How do I reopen my report on another device?

Use the secure link in a report or match email. If you no longer have one, choose Find my searches and use the same email address you verified for the report.

Public reports

When does my search become public?

Only after you choose to create a public report and complete any required verification. The product will show the report status so you can tell whether it is private, awaiting verification, or public.

What can other people see?

A public report can show the pet photo, description, report type, approximate area, relevant dates, and recovery status. Your email address and phone number are not displayed on the public report.

What should I leave out of a public description?

Do not include a home address, access code, full microchip number, private document, or another person’s contact information. Keep private details for protected conversations and ownership verification.

Found pets and sightings

I found a pet. What should I do first?

Keep yourself and the animal safe, then create a found-pet report with where and when the pet was found. A veterinarian, shelter, or animal-control agency may be able to scan for a microchip and explain local requirements.

What if I only saw the pet?

Create a sighting with the most accurate location, time, direction of travel, and photo you safely obtained. Do not chase an animal into traffic or enter private property.

Should I give a found pet to someone who contacts me?

Verify the claim first. Compare distinctive details and ask for credible records or photos. Use a veterinarian, shelter, or animal-control agency for help when ownership or a safe handoff is uncertain.

Possible matches

How are possibilities selected?

The service compares available clues such as photos, species, appearance, location, and timing. Stronger alignment can move a report higher, but every suggestion still needs human review.

Does a suggested match prove it is the same pet?

No. A possibility is a lead, not proof of identity or ownership. Compare details carefully and use records, a microchip scan, or a trusted professional when appropriate.

Why are there no strong possibilities yet?

There may not be a sufficiently relevant report nearby, or another report may not have been submitted yet. Keep the location, timing, photo, and distinctive details current so future reports can be compared well.

Contact and safety

Are my contact details public?

No. Public report pages do not display your email address or phone number. Contact details may be shared later through protected product choices, such as authorized sharing or a sufficiently confirmed interaction.

How do I avoid pet-recovery scams?

Do not send money, gift cards, verification codes, account credentials, or unnecessary identity documents. Be cautious with anyone who refuses to provide verifiable details or pressures you to act immediately.

How should I arrange a handoff?

Confirm the pet first and use a safe public or trusted professional location when practical. Bring another person if you feel vulnerable. Contact local authorities if a person or animal may be in immediate danger.
