About FindLostPets
Where it started
FindLostPets began in high school, when our founder and a friend built a lost-pet site called lostpetnet.com. They both went on to careers in technology, and the idea waited. Today’s technology can do what that first site couldn’t, like comparing a pet’s photos with listings from many places at once. So we came back to it.
How it helps
We bring together lost and found reports from people nearby and listings from shelters and city and county animal services, so you can look in one place instead of many. When you start a search, we compare your pet’s photos and details (color, size, where and when) with what’s been reported, and show you the closest possibilities. Turn on match emails and we’ll keep looking as new reports come in, and let you know when something looks close. You, with the shelter or finder, always decide whether it’s your pet.
Who we are
We’re an independent service, not a shelter, rescue or government agency, and we don’t hold animals. We help you find the local shelters and animal services who do.
Your privacy
Your search starts private, and nothing is published unless you choose to share it. We never show an owner’s, finder’s or reporter’s contact details publicly. Found-pet locations from shelter and city data are shown at block level or wider, never as an exact address.
Keeping it accurate
We check shelter details against their official pages before we show them. If we haven’t re-checked an entry in 180 days, we hide its phone number and point you to the official page until we do. Spot something wrong? Tell us on the feedback page and we’ll take a look.
